Mara is using her passion for cycling to ride 900km for ovarian cancer research.

Ride 4 Research Rider profile: Mara Ferraro When you commit to anything in life, you need to do it with a smile.  This has been my approach to cycling, work and family. Cycling has been my passion for the past 15 years, though I did graduate from the local triathlon series scene first.  I can still remember the fun and excitement of getting back on the bike for the first time after a long break.  My priorities for a little while in the past were directed to raising 3 wonderful children, who have now started their own life journeys away […]

I am cycling 900km for my Daughter who was diagnosed with a Rare Ovarian Cancer at 19 years old

Rider Profile: Stephen Mitchell My daughter Katelyn was diagnosed in September 2020 with Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumour (JGCT), a very rare form of ovarian cancer. Katelyn has had 2 operations, 1 to remove a Tumor and the 2nd to remove an ovary. At the time of her diagnoses the lack of information about this form of cancer lead Katelyn (also leaning on Lynnette and I) to decided that her treatment would be ‘watch n wait’. Chemotherapy was an option but was ineffective as the cancer can still reoccur. As of September 2021 Katelyn is well and all scans have been […]

Isa, Sydney, Newcastle, Archerfield, and Brisbane. I retired in 2014.  As an ATC, I still was involved in sport and exercise. […]

11-month-old baby Neve’s ovarian tumour was bigger than a softball.

11-month-old baby Neve’s ovarian tumour was bigger than a softball.  Imagine being diagnosed with ovarian cancer as a baby. Unfortunately, this was the confronting reality Neve and her parents Jo and Zoe found themselves in on August 1, 2014. Aged just 11 months old, Neve was diagnosed with Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumour (jGCT) – a recurrent, incurable ovarian cancer that has no effective treatments available post-surgery. Most people associate ovarian cancer as a disease affecting adult women. Few people know that ovarian cancer can be diagnosed at any age and affects females of all ages. So little is known about […]

Fours years ago today

Four years ago today marked the start of Rare Ovarian Cancer Incorporated (ROC Inc) a journey to create a greater public awareness and research for Rare Ovarian Cancer. With no screening test for ovarian cancer, the symptoms are often vague and easy to dismiss. Our goal is to create a greater public awareness for ovarian cancer and its symptoms. In 2019 together with our research partners at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research we initiated the world’s first, and largest research for Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumour (jGCT) a rare ovarian cancer. In 2020, with the support of ROC Inc, Hudson […]
