The ride COVID couldn’t stop – Ride 4 Research 2022 for Rare Ovarian Cancer Research

Ride 4 Research 2022 (R4R) riders have completed the last leg of the ride on Saturday 18 June 2022. 12 riders lead by R4R organiser Peter Reaburn set out from Canberra on 30 April to cycle 900km in 9 days, however the ride was cut short by two days as there was a COVID outbreak among the riders and support crew. Claire’s Swimathon, taking the plunge for Rare Ovarian Cancer research

80 swimmers and over $15,000 raised for research into rare ovarian cancer. ROC Inc Swim for Claire was hosted by Gold Coast’s Miami Masters Swim Club at the Miami Aquatic Centre. A fun-filled and very social event with many laps covered. Juvenile Granulosa Cell Tumour (JGCT) survivor Claire Reaburn, and national masters record holder swam with her daughter Rebecca Who swam 3 km and husband Peter 60 x 50m on 60s. Australian researchers leading the way for a rare ovarian cancer.

Australian researchers at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research are leading the way for Granulosa Cell Tumour (GCT), a rare ovarian cancer. The researchers have an opportunity to undertake enhanced DNA testing called Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) that could hold the answers for both subtypes of GCT adult GCT and Juvenile GCT. ROC Inc. aim is to raise the $30,000 needed to help get this testing underway. With no effective treatments for this recurrent cancer, we need to act now to save lives.
