Riding For Ovarian Cancer Research
Michael Dalton – Profile
My name is Michael Dalton. I live at Emu Park in Central Queensland.
I am married to Sandy and have two sons Nicholas and Liam.
I currently work for Livingstone Shire Council in the Infrastructure Water and Waste section and prior to that spent many years in the minerals industry.
My sporting career commenced with swimming where I won state and national masters swimming titles in butterfly culminating in 4th placing and 5th placing in the 200m & 100m butterfly events respectively at 1996 World Master Swimming Championships in Sheffield England.
From there I progressed to running marathons and Ironman Triathlon where I completed seven Ironman Triathlons including finishing the Ironman Triathlon in Kona Hawaii in 2001.
In 2009 and 2012 – I completed the Simpson Desert Bike Challenge (a 600 kilometre cycle across the desert in 5 days) to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Our family first met Peter & Claire Reaburn in 1995 and have since forged a deep friendship. Peter assisted me with my preparation for both Sheffield and Hawaii and I am forever grateful. For many years we have trained together for triathlon and cycling. I have learnt a significant amount about sports science and exercise physiology from Peter.
I have seen the challenges that Claire’s Rare Ovarian Cancer has presented to herself and the family.
When Peter first spoke to me the idea of the Ride for Rare Ovarian Cancer Research I volunteered straight away. The opportunity to not only help a very dear friend but to raise funds for this cause resonates with me. I lost my own mother Patricia to breast cancer in 2008 and am acutely aware of the challenges that cancer presents not only for the patient but family and friends as well.
My focus now is to prepare well for the ride – Canberra to Melbourne – 9 days 900 kilometres is not to be underestimated – plus raise as much money as I can for Rare Ovarian Cancer Research.

Mike’s mind and heart is on the right place in supporting this admirable cause. I believe the research will be immensely helpful to those who are currently diagnosed and potentially, help in early detection and intervention for women all over the world.
Thank You to Kevin McConville for your donation of $20.00 to the 2022 Ride for Research for Rare Ovarian Cancer.

Utmost admiration for Michael’s dedication to his friends. His lifelong dedication to sporting challenges being able to support this cause so close to his heart is what makes our friend Michael – Michael.

Hi Michael,

Kind regards,

In honour of my mum, Cheryl Millroy. Mum was diagnosed with stage 3 low-grade serous ovarian cancer. Low-grade serous ovarian cancer is a rare, slow-growing cancer that is generally resistant to cytotoxic chemotherapy. It accounts for < 10% of ovarian cancer cases. I am donating $1 for every year this world was blessed with such an incredible woman.
Thank you Michael and the team for organising such an amazing event and bringing much needed awareness and funding to rare ovarian cancer research.
I live with hope that one day the survival rates will be in line with those of our pink sisters!
All the very best Mike for a ride for an excellent cause.

This is a great cause, Ovarian Cancer is known as The Silent Killer and there needs to be information made available and to create awareness by such events is great for all females, young or old. Much needed funds for research is needed to keep progress happening.

While we have come so far in the diagnosis and treatment of cancers of all types, there is still so much work and research needed to find a cure for a disease that touches so many families.
Michael, you are an awesome human being and there is no way I would miss out on the opportunity to show my support of what your doing.
Hoping the wind is at your back for the ride!!
So many families are touched by cancer of all forms and while so much progress has been made towards detection and treatment, there is still a lot more to be done to find a cure.
