Ken Theodore – Profile

Hi I’m Ken Theodore, from Townsville in North Queensland.

Up until 12 years ago, swimming had been my main form of exercise. Fortunately at that time, I decided to get out of my comfort zone and complete a half-marathon. The pain that followed led me to a physio who told me that my body shape was not for running nor swimming and suggested that I take up cycling!

Little did I know, a colleague of mine was a cyclist wanting to return to road riding. Within 2 years, we had established a cycling team of 10 students at our school and completed the Townsville to Cairns (355k, 3 day) ride. I have now completed the RollaCoaster (Bowen to Collinsville and return), Blackdog (Townsville to Ayr and return) and River to Reef (Mackay). Each of these have varying distances, terrain and fantastic comaraderie amongst riders.

Cycling with Peter in December 2020, he talked to me about his vision of a charity ride for Rare Ovarian Cancer research and I was very pleased to accept the challenge.

900ks in 9 days. My pain for 9 days will not compare to the pain endured by cancer victims and I am honoured to be able to do this ride to assist ROC research.
